Video management firm Panopto launches ANZ data centre
Tue, 24th Nov 2020
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Video management system provider Panopto has this month launched a new data center for the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) region.

To date, Panopto Cloud has been available from data centers in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, with Australia and New Zealand now added to the list.

The data center, based in Sydney, provides local cloud-based video hosting for enterprise and higher education customers.

The data center leverages Amazon Web Services (AWS). So far, it hosts content for several ANZ Panopto customers, including the University of Waikato in New Zealand.

The company states that businesses and universities based in Australia and New Zealand can now host their Panopto video libraries on an in-region cloud that complies with organisational data storage policies.

That means all video recording stored on a customer's Panopto platform will be stored locally, which means video performance and response times are maximised, and data center ownership risks are mitigated. What's more, data is stored locally and adheres to data protection regulations.

The company further explains that Panopto Cloud operates on multiple Amazon Web Services (AWS) availability zones and leverages server redundancy, removing single points of failure and providing access to the video platform in case of outages or server failures.

The platform is built on a multi-tenant architecture for high scale, simplified upgrades, enhanced security, and cost efficiencies that are passed along to Panopto customers.

In addition, the Panopto Cloud scales elastically based on demand, ensuring that traffic spikes don't negatively impact performance.

Panopto Australia and New Zealand general manager Michael Savanis says that the company has experienced a growth surge in the region, due in part to the rise of remote workforces and distance learning.

“It's crucial for organisations to know that their proprietary video content is secure, and we are excited to launch a local data center for Australia and New Zealand  that provides a secure, scalable cloud solution.

Panopto says that all customers located in Australia and New Zealand will be migrated to the new data center next year.

“Panopto is in Australia and New Zealand for the long-haul,” concludes Savanis.

Panopto was founded in 2007 by technology entrepreneurs and software experts at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science.  In the last two years, the company was named a Leader by Aragon Research in its 2019 Research Globe for Enterprise Video, and a Contender in the 2020 Aragon Research Globe for Web and Video Conferencing.
